This block is one of the most functional blocks in Powelton.

Powel School, built in 1960, was the center of the neighborhood for almost 70 years. Educating generations of neighborhood children in its 11 classrooms, it holds special place in our hearts.  The school was moved to 3610 Warren Street in 2019, and expanded from a K-4 to a K-8. Currently this block is as a swing space for the Philadelphia School District, with the playground functioning as a somewhat awkward parking lot.

It is also the seat of local democracy serving as the polling place for two divisions of Powelton.Village.
